Here is a snapshot of how I began. Picture it: San Francisco, 1986. As a 12 year old, I spent countless hours listening to Billboard’s Top 100 and re-watching the Goonies. One day, I got a call from my favorite aunt asking me to help her create calm out of of a chaotic home. Overwhelmed, she requested my help after a hospital stay. Since I dearly love my aunt, I faithfully helped her declutter her four bedroom home, here in the Bay Area. At first, It seemed dark inside and was overflowing with so many things that she loved. We worked diligently for a year. The process required compassion, patience, honesty, reliability, respect and an effervescent sense of fun. I concentrated on creating brighter spaces wherever I worked, and she would say that everything actually felt - lighter and brighter. We would listen to dance music while we sorted. She started feeling unstuck and started making plans again, having folks over, opening drapes wide and letting the light in. The next year, she was able to downsize successfully, sell the house, and move to her beloved sunny San Diego. I am honored to have been a part of her transformation and it gave me a lifelong appreciation for managing space projects for better function, beauty and fun!
